Ingredients

  • ½ cup 1 stick butter
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar divided (plus 1 teaspoon for sprinkling, optional)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups blackberries fresh or frozen

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • Melt the butter in a microwavable dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar and the flour.
  • Whisk in the milk and mix well.
  • Pour in the melted butter and whisk everything together until smooth.

Prepare the Baking Dish:

  • Butter a baking dish of your choice.
  • Rinse and pat dry the blackberries.

Assemble the Cobbler:

  • Pour the batter into the buttered baking dish.
  • Evenly distribute the blackberries over the top of the batter.
  • Sprinkle ¼ cup of sugar over the top.

Bake the Cobbler:

  • Bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or until the cobbler is golden and bubbly.
  • Optionally, sprinkle an additional teaspoon of sugar over the cobbler 10 minutes before it’s done for an extra touch of sweetness.

Serve:

  • Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Frozen Blackberries: If using frozen blackberries, there's no need to thaw them first; just add them directly to the batter.
  • Optional Topping: For a crispy, sweet crust, sprinkle some sugar over the top just before baking.
